Unit History

JROTC at Whitley County High School started at the beginning of the 1993-1994 school year.  The unit nickname was originally the Pioneer Battalion.  We changed our name to the Colonel Battalion in 2019 to align it with our school mascot and reflect our passion about our school.

Symbolism

Red, white and black are the school colors. The rifle and tomahawk reflect the conflict and eventual peace between local Native Americans and settlers in establishing the area. The wavy area, showing the Native American symbol for running water, symbolizes Cumberland Falls, a local scenic area.

The lamp of knowledge implies enlightenment and leadership of the cadets in the disciplines of science, the arts, and athletics. The arc of rings above the shield represents Cumberland Falls, a local scenic spot, and reflects the cadets' dedication to their community.
